Kent State University at Trumbull offers advice to displaced students

More than 35,000 students nationwide were recently displaced when ITT Educational Services Inc. closed its chain of technical colleges. To assist students, Kent State University at Trumbull’s Enrollment Management and Students Services department is offering “Let’s Make a Plan: An Information Session for Former ITT Students” on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Kent State Trumbull’s Auditorium.

The event, which is free and open to all former ITT students and their families, begins at 6:00 p.m.

Individuals who attend can obtain information on acquiring transcripts, navigating financial aid options and determining next steps for future academic pursuits.

“Our hearts go out to these students,” said Jim Ritter, Director, Enrollment Management and Student Services, Kent State Trumbull. “Each one of those 35,000 students represents someone who is pursuing a better life and now they have to abruptly shift gears and find another option.”

To further assist ITT students, Kent State Trumbull is waiving its $40 application fee.

Kent State Trumbull is located at 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W. in Warren. The Auditorium is in the Classroom/Administration Building, positioned directly across from the flag poles on the east side of campus.  Parking is free in two lots directly north of the main entrance to the Classroom/Administration Building.

When Marissa Lemasters graduated from Newton Falls in 2018, she never imagined where she would be Friday night: standing in front of hundreds of people as the student speaker for Kent State Trumbull's 2024 Spring Commencement.

Regarding her high school experience, Lemasters reflected that she was not just shy,  but “super shy.”

"Besides lower tuition, one of the reasons I chose Kent State Trumbull was its size," Lemasters said. "I had not come out of my shell so I wanted a smaller campus close to home."

Jeffrey M. Magada, founder and executive director of Flying HIGH Inc., will deliver the keynote address at Kent State University at Trumbull's 2024 spring commencement.

More than 300 students and family members will attend the ceremony that begins at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 10, at Packard Music Hall.

Senior nursing students at Kent State University's Trumbull Campus joined the Trumbull County Combined Health District and Warren City Health District staff today to test their ability to respond to an anthrax attack.

According to Erin Heckman, director of nursing at the Trumbull County Combined Health District, the simulation traced a dispersal of anthrax into the community, and the response required treating community members as quickly and efficiently as possible.
