Kent State Ashtabula will be hosting their 4th annual Ohio Science Olympiad workshop for middle and high school students to practice for their events. With our instructors and professors, participants study science topics relating to events in which they will compete at the regional, state and national level. This year’s event also includes a keynote speaker, Dr. Tara C. Smith, from the College of Public Health at Kent State University. Her speech, titled “Ebola and Emerging Diseases: Why we’ll always have pandemics,” will begin at 11:00 AM. The event begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 1:50 PM. Step in. Stand out! That was a common theme among student speakers and graduates at this year's Kent State University's Regional Campus spring graduation ceremonies.
From the shores of Lake Erie to the banks of the Ohio River, more than 1,600 Regional Campus students graduated with master's, bachelor's and associate degrees, along with certificate programs certifications.
The Ashtabula Campus honored its annual award recipients at the Spring 2024 Commencement. Cheryle J. Chiaramonte was named the Ashtabula Area College Committee, Inc. Community Service Award winner while Dr. Gordon Estlack received the Roger T. Beitler Distinguished Former Student Award.

Gordon Estlack, PT, DPT, OCS, GCS, Cert MDT, a 2003 graduate, with distinction, of the Physical Therapist Assisting Technology program is the 2024 Roger T. Beitler Distinguished Former Student Award recipient. He currently works as a physical therapist at the Orthopaedic Institute of Ohio in Findlay, Ohio.
He was presented the award as part of the Kent State University at Ashtabula spring commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 9, 2024 in Susan J. Stocker Hall.
